Shopping and history around the Opéra
If Haute Couture is just eye-candy for your budget, step out of the department stores, because more affordable shops are located on the way to the place de l’Opéra where the Palais Garnier sits, Paris’ historical opera house, which ceiling was hand-painted by Chagal. During the 14th century this neighborhood was a vegetables’ farm that fed Paris. During Louis XIV, noblemen would offer a home to their mistress(es) in beautiful private residences. Today, it’s a lively neighborhood, animated day and night.
All the way up to the Grands Boulevards, a walk in a festive atmosphere
To cool off in another mythic area, and drop off your bags, the Café de la Paix has a terrace opens up on the beginning of the Grands Boulevards where a lot of theater’s plays take place, as well as the Grévin museum, a place full of celebrities... made of wax. Right next to it, do visit the astonishing passage Jouffroy and discover its art bookshops. A little farther down the rue du Faubourg Montmartre, come have a look at the mythic Chartier restaurant, a jaw-droppingly affordable meal in a place officially declared as historical.
